Whanau Day

Friday 22nd February 2019
Whanau Day(Athletics)

Yesterday we had whanau day and this was just a series of different activities. One of the activities I enjoyed most was the River, this activity we were only allowed on the blue mats to get across to the other side. Alita had taken responsibility at the front of the river and I took it at the back. With everyone near the front that meant I had to make sure I passed the mats to the front quickly to get over the logs and the other side. Once I moved to the middle someone else went to the end and I worked in the middle. I kept saying "come on guys we got this" cheering my team on and encouraging them. We done the same thing for both times we were going to attempt. At the end of the competition Te Aparangi had won and that made us proud. At the end of the day we had to sit down and hear who the winners of the 2019 Whanau Day were, Otuuwairoa had finally got their title taken off them from 2 year champions to give the win to Te Aparangi and my whanau celebrated by saying T's up over and over again. That brighten up our afternoon to know we were the 2019 winners and then we quickly cleaned up and left school.

Social Responsibility- Invasion Sports

On Wednesday 13th of February, I was in PE & we were playing Invasion touch rugby. In this game we had to get into teams & my team had 4 players, the opposite team had 4 as well. We could pass the ball forward or backwards. The aim of the game is to put the ball down in the try line. The other team could touch you in the scoring bit but they could not touch you if you were on your side, with the ball. Every time there was a touch/handover you always had to go back to your side and touch the wall before trying to score. You could go to your own wall freely so that meant you could not get touched. Me and my team worked out strategies in order to score. Even if we did not score we still did not give up and we tried again and again. My team had a lot of different communication skills like we knew who we were marking before starting our game. We didn't put anyone down if they did something wrong we just encouraged to keep going. Our first try we got was so unexpected as I just walked into the scoring zone and my team mate passed it to me and we scored a try. We tried that technique again but it just did not work so we tried many more strategies.
